Building confidence before the first interview

Your first professional interview is a chance to share your potential and learn about the role. Feeling nervous is normal. Prepare examples that show your skills, research the organisation and practise a clear introduction.\n\nBefore the interview\nRead the position description carefully. Note the skills the employer values and choose two or three examples from study, work, volunteering or projects.\n\nOn the day\nPlan your route, bring a notebook and arrive with time to settle. Listen closely, answer the question asked and take a breath before you begin.\n\nAfter the interview\nSend a short thank-you email and reflect on what went well.
